As of summer 2022, the two buildings are so covered with vines, if you casually drive (or bicycle) past, you would not know there were buildings under the foliage. kodachromeguy@bellsouth.nethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06220306502819757568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-418200345166548412.post-52503256300633465372022-09-28T15:06:41.156-07:002022-09-28T15:06:41.156-07:00Ms. Gilstrap, I did a follow up submission on the ...Ms. Gilstrap, I did a follow up submission on the farms and the school for the Living New Deal Project. You might be interested in checking it, as it has photographs of the houses and school shortly after it was finished. I have many memories in these buildings and on the playgrounds. I'll be 58 next month and yet when I saw the picture of the inside of the classroom I recognized the walls and the windows immediately... even after all these years. Sad to see it in such shape.<br />Rhonda Pillars Gilstrapnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-418200345166548412.post-30857135807110251792021-07-23T19:55:16.471-07:002021-07-23T19:55:16.471-07:00Or, most likely, much has been demolished, deterio...Or, most likely, much has been demolished, deteriorated, or lost to the same ravages as the school. I tried to find out more, but turns out not much news about Thomastown. You know me, though, I will look a bit more. I really appreciate how you document these spaces. You need to do a gallery show somewhere!Suzassippihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05684211841308097391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-418200345166548412.post-40331803679125580902021-07-23T19:42:03.070-07:002021-07-23T19:42:03.070-07:00Suzassippi, thanks for the note on a Co-op. Thomastown was the headquarters of LADELTA Co-Operative Association, a resettlement project from the Farm Security Administration in 1938. It was for African Americans, and had 147 farmsteads. The built a school, the cotton gin, and other co-op facilities.Suzassippihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05684211841308097391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-418200345166548412.post-16041647857711282722021-07-21T08:00:00.160-07:002021-07-21T08:00:00.160-07:00Yum.
